Small dogs and outfits
My sister is getting a Shih tzu puppy from our great aunt (puppy is only 3 weeks old at the moment)
She already has the pink bed that looks like a throne, personalised bowls and blankets, collar, harness, 2 leads, toys, a huge playpen (not a cage because according to my sister it would be mean if the dog could only see bars wherever she looked and this way there are no bars when she looks up ) and booked her in for puppy socialisation classes ; which is all fair enough, but here's where I draw the line... She has bought a bag to carry Candyfloss (the dog) around in and lots of pink frilly dresses and one that says 100% bitch! she's even purchased a little doggy wardrobe to hang them in!
Now I don't mind a dog in a coat (if necessary) or even a jumper under certain circumstances and I am always amused by pictures of dogs in clothes, but the idea of putting ur dog in a dress every morning and carrying it around is just to much.
Now don't get me wrong, my sister is very reliable and the dog will be walked, well looked after and cared for properly, I just personally think dogs don't need dresses!
What are your opinions on dog clothes

I agree with coats and jumpers, our dogs usually wear theirs in winter, never summer, but dresses? This is a dog, not a babydoll... poor dog
Re: Small dogs and outfits
Its a pet hate of mine I have no problem with coats/jumpers in harsh weather for dogs that don't have much body mass to protect them but dresses/thrones/wardrobes - its a flippin dog not a baby or a toy to dress up

Mine have Equafleece coats and jumpers for wet weather (that's more about reducing the mess and wet dog odour than anything else. ) but that is where I draw the line. I wouldn't be buying a whole wardrobe for them.

We're the same on the avoiding mess! And it adds another layer in harsh weather

It's a dog. It isn't a child substitute, it isn't a dolly, it isn't an action figure but a dog. People who do this are abusing the poor dog. Sorry, don't want to insult your sister but dogs don't like it and it isn't nice.
Re: Small dogs and outfits
It is now a moot point as my sister has just been informed that the Pup is in actual fact A BOY!
She will still be having him as her daughter has been visiting him since the day he was born, but they are all gutted!

Don't be so sure. WE had guets come Christmas last year and their dog had a new outfit for evry occasion, tracksuit and dark glasses, tuxedo, lounge suit the lot. Just keep her away from the doggy clothes shop.
Boy dogs are good, I've got lots of them and they're always lovely creatures.

My husband wanted a boy dog as he is seriously outnumbered in this household, cats, chickens, humans - he's the only man around. He couldn't believe it when I told him there was only a girl left in the litter!

Re: Small dogs and outfits
MY ex husband (more than 20 years ago now) shouted at me as he left that he was getting out before I emasculated him as every other living creature in the household had its 'balls' cut off!
Re: Small dogs and outfits
Oh poor thing! I hope the poor dog doesn't get dressed up as some pirate or something >.<
Re: Small dogs and outfits
No, no clothes for the boy - who is now called Benji , just a little coat for winter!
